08-Mar-09 U.S. Dept. of Agriculture (USDA) Designation - Flood/Storms- #M1884

USDA granted a Secretarial Disaster Designation pursuant to President Obama's Major Disaster Declaration (FEMA-1884-DR-CA).

Eligible Primary Counties: Calaveras, Imperial, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, Siskiyou

Eligible Contiguous Counties: San Joaquin, and 14 other statewide counties

Event: Severe winter storms, flooding, and debris and mud flows,  that occured between 17-January through 06-February, 2010

Assistance available:

  • Emergency farm loans for actual losses as a direct result of the disaster
    • Up to a maximum of $500,000
    • Interest rate of 3.75 percent

Application Deadline: 08-November, 2010

Who may apply:  Farmers and ranchers who conduct family-sized farming operations.

    • Up to a maximum of $500,000

The U.S. Small Business Administration declared County of San Joaquin a "Contiguous County."  This due to to losses caused to a Modesto business complext that occurred August 2, 2009.

Eligible Primary Counties: San Joaquin

Eligible Contiguous Counties:

Event: Business fire, occured 02-Aug, 2009.

Assistance available:

  • SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs), up to $2 million.  To help meet financial losses from the disaster only, and not on any actual property damage.

Application Deadline:  July 21, 2010

Who may apply:

Small, non-farm buinesses and small agricultural cooperatives and most private, non-profit organizations of any size.  Small businesses include those that do business directly with the growers, such as truckers and suppliers of agricultural equipment or services.

No Matter Where You Live, Floods Happen...

And they can happen to you. About one-third of all flood insurance claims are paid to property owners in "low - to moderate risk" areas. Although there is a reduce risk of flooding in these areas, financial losses can be devastating if a flood occurs and you are uninsured.

Your homeowners policy specifically excludes damage from "rising water". Federal Flood Insurance is the only type of coverage which protects your home and belongings from damage caused by "rising water" associated with flooding.
