What Other Help Is Available?

Family Law Service Center
Find Legal Resources 42 N. Sutter St., Suite 302
Stockton, CA 95202
(209) 948-1171

The Family law Service Center is a non-profit organization, provides legal assistance to low-income residents of San Joaquin County in the area of Family Law at a minimal or reduced rate. This includes, but is not limited to: Dissolutions of Marriage; Annulments; Protective Court Orders; Custody Agreements and Modifications; Guardianships; and Stepparent Adoptions. The Family Law Service Center is unique in the fact that it is the only legal service agency in San Joaquin County that provides direct representation by a licensed attorney in family law matters.

Many persons facing abusive family situations have the need to establish orders for custody of a child, protective court orders, and child support in order to maintain the family unit. Legal intervention can help reduce the trauma and provide a cushion for victims at a critical moment in their lives. Immediate legal solutions can also lessen the danger by helping diffuse a violent home situation with protective court orders and/or Restraining Orders and thereby reduce both the severity of violence and the number of future incidents.

Family Law Pro Per Clinic
http://www.stocktoncourt.org/courts/selfhelp1.htm

The Family Law Pro Per Clinic is designed to help people representing themselves in Family Law matters. The Clinic intends to better inform individuals who choose to proceed with their cases without an attorney. The Pro Per Clinic does not provide legal advice or represent you in court. There is no attorney-client relationship between you and the staff, and the Clinic does not take the place of an attorney. It is available for public use Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The clinic is located in Room 405 of the Stockton Courthouse. When you visit the Family Law Pro Per Clinic, you will fill out an intake form describing the issue which you want to address. A staff person will review your request and sit down with you to provide procedural assistance, an understanding of the system, and guidance on completing the forms. Sign up sheets are normally placed out before opening. Persons are seen on a first come, first served basis.
