December 8, 2006 - December's CQI Council Meeting Cancelled

The December 13, 2006 CQI Council meeting has been cancelled. The next meeting is scheduled for February 14, 2007.

November 29, 2006 - EMS CE Training Offered by Montezuma Fire District

Montezuma Fire District will be hosting an AED review, focusing on the new AED's that were given out by AMR (Medtronic/Lifepak AED). In addition, they will review START Triage. The training will be held December 16, 2006 from 0800-1200 hrs at the Montezuma Fire Station at Stockton Metropolitan Airport, 5000 S Airport Way, Stockton, CA 95206-3910. 4 hrs of CE will be awarded to participants. November 15, 2006 - New Non-Emergency ALS Ambulance Provider for Zone B (Stockton)

November 15, 2006 - New Non-Emergency BLS Ambulance Provider for Zone C (Tracy)

San Joaquin County EMS Agency would like to welcome ProTransport-1, LLC to the local EMS community. ProTransport-1, LLC is authorized to provide non-emergency BLS ambulance transportation in Zone C (Tracy). See Provider page of the website for contact information.

In an effort to ensure that patients that meet air ambulance utilization criteria are transported to an appropriate receiving facility, the San Joaquin County EMS Agency has released a policy memorandum that identifies acceptable air ambulance destinations. September 4, 2006 - St. Joseph's Medical Center Road Paving Alert

Below is a memo from Cheryl Heaney-Ordez, RN, MSN, CEN, Emergency Department Director of St. Joseph's Medical Center regarding the following events:
  • Thursday, September 7, 2006 - The St. Joseph's Medical Center Ambulance Bay will be closed for the day. The ED parking lot will be open to ambulance traffic ONLY. EMS Crews will be able to bring patients into the ED via the ED lobby entrance.
  • Friday, September 8, 2006 - Cemetery Lane will be paved and their will be no access to the Ambulance Bay via McCloud Street. Please note that on this day all ambulance providers will need to access the ambulance bay via Maple St. or Harding Way.

August 7, 2006 - Safety Concerns at St. Joseph's Medical Center - Construction on Cemetery Lane

Construction is underway on Cemetery Lane at St. Joseph's Medical Center. For the safety of the construction workers and ambulance occupants it is requested that ambulance crews use Harding Way or Maple Street to enter the hospital during the construction hours of 6am to 5pm. July 28, 2006 - Construction Resumed at St. Joseph's Medical Center - Cemetery Lane Effected

Effective immediately, Cemetery Lane is blocked to traffic from 6:00am to 5:00pm until further notice. EMS providers can access St. Joseph's Medical Center from either Harding Way or Maple Street. July 21, 2006 - State EMS Authority Proposing to Amend EMT-I Regulations

The Emergency Medical Services Authority is proposing to amend the Emergency Medical Technician - I Regulations (Chapter 2, Division 9, Title 22, California Code of Regulations). The Notice of Proposed Rulemaking, Initial Statement of Reasons, and the proposed text of the regulations are available for review on the EMS Authority's website, www.emsa.ca.gov. If you are unable to access the website and would like copies mailed, faxed, or e-mailed to you, or if you have any questions, please contact Sean Trask at (916) 322-4336, extension 408, or by e-mail at sean.trask@emsa.ca.gov. Interested persons may submit written comments on the proposed regulatory action during the 45 day comment period provided from July 21, 2006 to September 4, 2006. A public hearing will be held on September 4, 2006 at the EMS Authority, 1930 9th Street, Sacramento, CA 95814, from 12:30pm to 2:00pm, for those individuals who would like to present statements or arguments orally or in writing. The EMS Authority must receive written comments on the proposed changes by 5:00pm on September 4, 2006.

June 16, 2006 - Caution...Construction at St. Joseph's Medical Center Ambulance Bay

St. Joseph's Medical Center will begin trenching in the ambulance bay area beginning today, June 16, 2006. In addition, on Monday June 19, 2006 the North side of the ambulance bay will be closed to ambulance traffic. Please read the memo for additional details.

June 12, 2006 - San Joaquin County Civil Grand Jury Report

The San Joaquin County Civil Grand Jury released its report concerning a complaint it received about the request for proposal (RFP) process that resulted in the award of an exclusive emergency ambulance contract to American Medical Response (AMR) in January 2006. The grand jury stated in its report that: "Following an extensive review, the Grand jury has determined that the RFP process and the award of the Ambulance contract to AMR was consistent with the RFP. The members found no violations of policies or procedures by individuals involved with the RFP process, by the Proposal Review Committee or in the award of the contract by the [Board of Supervisors] and/or county representatives." The New Mobile Intensive Care Nurse Authorization Policy, EMS Policy No. 2610 is approved effective May 18, 2006 and is available on the Policies web page. Additionally, on the Mobile Intensive Care Nurse Authorization web page is the new MICN Application effective June 1, 2006 along with the MICN Orientation Verification Form for initial MICN applicants and MICN CE Form for Re-authorizing MICN applicants.

May 8, 2006 - Dameron Hospital is no Longer a Base Hospital

Dameron Hospital, Stockton, CA has requested that the hospital's status as a secondary base hospital in San Joaquin County be terminated. The EMS Agency is honoring that request, which will become effective on May 8, 2006, at 0800. All base contact for on line medical control should be directed to the county Disaster Control Facility at San Joaquin General Hospital. The Ambulance Strike Team Leader Course is a two day course offered to meet the California EMSA Ambulance Strike Team Leader trainee level requirements. The course will take place May 12th and 13th from 0900 to 1800 at the Santa Rosa Junior College. Read more >>

April 11, 2006 - Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) Program

Effective immediately the EMS Agency is invoking a moratorium on the practice of rerouting ambulance patients from one emergency department to another emergency department as previously authorized by EMS Policy No. 550-06. Read more >>

February 7, 2006 - Welcome Peter Benson and Anna Valdez

Dan Burch, EMS Administrator is pleased to announce two new additions to the EMS staff: Peter Benson, M.D. MPH, Assistant Medical Director and Anna Valdez, RN, MSN, EMS Quality Improvement / Trauma Coordinator. Dr. Benson, a former San Joaquin County paramedic, is an attending emergency medicine physician at San Joaquin General Hospital and the University of Southern California - Los Angeles County Medical Center. Anna Valdez, RN MSN is an experienced emergency nurse, educator and hospital emergency preparedness coordinator. Please join us in extending Peter and Anna a hardy Welcome Aboard!

January 19, 2006 - AMR is Recruiting EMT's, Paramedics, and Dispatchers


American Medical Response (AMR) announced this week the start of an active recruitment program to provide preference in the AMR hiring process for Paramedics, EMT's and Dispatchers of the incumbent workforce in Zones A, B and C, who may be displaced as a result of the exclusive emergency ambulance service contract awarded to AMR.
