California is the fourth largest apple-producting state in the nation. Only Washington, New York and Michigan product more apples.
In 1998, the average U.S. consumer at 47.2 pounds of apples and apple products.
Thirty-seven percent of the apples produced were processed into apple products: dried apples, canned apples, frozen applest, juice and cider, baby food, apple butter, jelly and vinegar.
In 1999, San Joaquin County's five leading export markets were Taiwan, United Kingdom, Costa Rica, Canada and Hong Kong.
