Frequently Asked Questions

Changes to Days and Hours of Operations:

1.        What changes will occur?

The County Solid Waste Division is reducing operating days and hours due to a long term decline in customer traffic and trash volume.  The Lovelace Transfer Station will be open from 7 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday.  Lovelace gates will open at 8 am and close at 4 pm on Saturday and Sunday.   The North County Landfill’s schedule during the week will be from 7 am to 4 pm; 8 am to 4 pm on Saturday and closed on Sunday.

2.        Why change hours?

These changes are needed in order to help control operating expenses.  The Solid Waste Division has been cutting expenses and controlling spending over the last few years.  By changing the schedule, the Division can further reduce expenses by an estimated $400,000.

3.       Why choose these hours / days?

Based on customer traffic patterns, these times would impact the fewest customers while allowing the division to maintain services.

4.        Who approved these changes?

The Department of Public Works presented the concept of changes in operating days and hours to the Board of Supervisors of San Joaquin County during the annual budget hearings that took place on June 23, 2010.  The Board approved the concept and allowed for these changes to be put into effect during the current fiscal year.

5.        When will these changes go into effect?

The new schedule will start on Monday, September 27, 2010.

6.        Will these changes be permanent?

If there is an increase in demand for services by customers and an increase in trash volume that supports a need for more hours, the Department of Public Works will review schedules as warranted.

7.        I use Foothill Landfill.  Will Foothill’s hours and days be changed?

At this time, Foothill’s hours will not be changing.  Foothill is operated under contract to the County and has not given any notice of changes in its working hours.

8.        I use North County’s landfill.  What options do I have if I need or want to dispose of trash on Sunday?

You have two choices:

Foothill Landfill
Open Sunday 8:00am to 5:00pm

 or

Lovelace Transfer Station
Open Sunday 8:00am to 4:00pm
